A woodburning stove installation for a summerhouse / log cabin

[heading]A woodburning stove installed in a garden room in Chester[/heading]

Warm and inviting, the V2 looks right at home!

Recently the Vesta Stoves team had another interesting summerhouse installation. This time one of our Vesta V2 woodburning stoves was installed in a wonderful Dunster House cabin situated on the outskirts of Chester. Over six hours our stove engineers did some fine work and by the end of the day the wood burner stove was up and running. The Vesta V2 woodburning stove (with log store unit) was selected due to its low KW output, ideal for a small garden room or summerhouse.

The Dunster House cabin is 4 years old and had been used previously just to store garden furniture. Our customers were looking for a new lease of life for the cabin and the Vesta V2 fitted the bill perfectly and transformed the cabin completely. The owner of the summerhouse opted for Vesta engineers to install the stove so he could take advantage of our lifetime warranty. Rather than the three year warranty with our standard Vesta Stove DIY pack.

Because of the nature of the installation the stove engineers surveyed the site to ensure the stove would have optimal and safe placement. With an OK from the customer on their choice of stove location, within a few hours the custom heatshield was installed as well as watertight flashing and a twin wall flue kit. Even in such a small area we have to ensure that the woodburner has sufficient ventilation.

You can feel the heat from there too!

After commissioning the stove (which included the installation of a free carbon monoxide detector) the Vesta engineers stayed behind to give a full tutorial and a demonstration on how to use it correctly.

The demo included how to light and manage the stove, as well as how to care for the burner and log store long-term. We left a very happy (and snug) customer to enjoy his summerhouse cabin for years to come with a Vesta Stoves woodburner.

An independent Vesta stove review from a happy customer

We recently received an email at Vesta HQ from a very happy customer. We’re always grateful to receive this kind of independent review because it’s great to know our wood burning stoves can have such a dramatic effect on a customer’s home.

Read this independent review of a Vesta Stove

Before his initial order the customer telephoned and explained that his neighbour had a Vesta V4 woodburning stove installed in his home. During a visit over the Christmas cold snap, he noticed that his neighbour’s home was lovely and warm, whereas his own house was quite cold. Although he wasn’t a stranger to the world of wood burners, as he’d already had two stoves previously, but they were just not performing as they should. After ordering and installing a Vesta V4 the following is the email that we received:

Following my recent order of my Vesta V4 I feel I should put a quick email together to let you know that I am thoroughly pleased with it! It all started with my neighbour ordering one about 2 years ago, he often boasts about his lounge being toasty and sitting there in his shorts whilst the thermometer is commanding sub zero temperatures!

Amazing Performance

I have tried various stoves to heat the lounge, kitchen and the hallway (I am open plan) whilst my lounge is 44 cubic meters the whole area it has to heat is considerably more! And it does! I find initial burn when lighting of an evening requires a nice hot burn around 450 degrees on the thermometer for about half an hour then the heat is in the chimney and refuelling is easy, the air wash is excellent and the view of the fire is amazing this also contributes to heat transference into the room quite considerably.

The stove was well packaged upon arrival and secured to a pallet and arrived pre 09:00 as promised on the courier, a tip to the driver ensured a lift over the threshold and into the lounge upon delivery. I would recommend this stove as it claims a 4.5kw output ensures no need for an airbrick (constant source of external airflow) under the current laws, however it feels like it’s outputting a whole lot more! I can see how you achieve a high efficiency with this stove it is remarkable and made in this country to boot.

Vesta V4 will not disappoint

So if anyone contemplating purchasing a Vesta I can only comment on my experience which is with the v4 which has been remarkable so if this is anything to go by then I expect the rest of the range will not disappoint

If you have any photos, stories or reviews on your Vesta Stove experience please do get in touch. We’re always happy to hear from you.

A woodburner fitted in a log cabin summerhouse

Vesta install logburners in summerhouses

We were recently approached at Vesta Stoves to develop a unique custom stove project that really piqued our interest. The request was for a custom wood burning stove that could be used to heat a cabin in Winter as well as a patio heater in Summer. Always up for a challenge our engineers in our Lancashire workshop came up with a design based on our coveted Vesta V4 wood burning stove.

The customer had seen the work that we did recently on Channel 4’s Grand Designs on the HIVEHAUS. In this project we supplied a Vesta multifuel stove to compliment the cell or ‘hive’ design on the HIVEHAUS to provide an efficient but contemporary method of heating the building. Whereas our customer wanted to take it a step further by having the choice to use the wood burner either inside or outside. At Vesta we build garden stoves and we build indoor stoves, but this is the first time we’ve ever combined the two designs together.

This project was a great opportunity to show the diversity of our wood burning stoves. Firstly we had to ensure the door could take the full weight of the wood burner being hung on it. Which basically meant replacing and reinforcing the door completely. Next, to ensure the safety of the stove in use, we designed and built a custom heat shield that backed and surrounded the flue system. We made sure that the custom built heat shield matched the bespoke stove colour and modern curved design of the wood burner itself. We appreciate that safety is a must but there’s nothing wrong with doing it in style! The flue system then neatly goes from the top of the stove out through the back door adding to the classic log cabin effect with a neat chrome finish outside.

The customer is over the moon with the results and we’re happy to have worked on such an individual stove design. We really think the Vesta stove is at home in (and out of) the cabin and we know it’ll be a talking point and centrepiece for many years to come.

How to fit a wood burning stove in a shed

A custom built wood burning stove for a customer

Just after installation!

We were recently approached to design and manufacturer a custom built wood burning stove for a customer in Lancashire. He was more than happy with the look and style of our wood burning stoves, but he wanted to customise the dimensions to fit his room alcove exactly. He had brought in a rough sketch of the type of stove he wanted based on our Vesta Stoves V6 Tubular with some bespoke size requirements.

Read on to find out how we built the custom stove.

We were more than happy to help at Vesta HQ as all of our wood burning stoves are handmade. As the stoves are cut, built, welded and painted in-house on site in our factory in Rufford we can customise virtually any aspect of the build. Customising the Vesta V6 wood burning  stove design wasn’t difficult to do and it became a very enjoyable project for all involved.

Using the dimensions from the custom stove sketch the customer provided, we began producing working drawings and a bespoke design on our computer aided cutting tool, ready for the customer to approve. Once he was happy that we had produced a stove design matching his drawings, we began the process of building the woodburner. We modified our CNC cutting machine to cut the metal to the desired length and height for each individual section of the wood burning stove.

Once cut, the new sections were then welded and handbuilt together to produce the finished custom wood stove for the customer. Once the rope seals were installed, the wood burning stove was coated and finished in a charcoal colouring to compliment the surround in the customer’s home. Custom glass cut to the stove door shape was added along with the door fixing.

The finished custom wood burning stove

At each step of the build process we tested the wood burning stove to make sure it would still perform and behave as a Vesta Stoves wood burner should. The custom burner actually performed a great deal better than expected and belted out a massive amount of heat. Our customer was really happy with the result and so were the Vesta Stoves team.

As our stoves are hand built we can customise many of the aspects of the build including flue positions on the stove, custom widths, custom heights and much more. We hope to work on many more custom stoves in the future so please get in touch if you have any particular requirements.

The Bushmaster Camping stove

Cooking on wood – Bushmaster camping stove

The Bushmaster Camping Stove.

We have long been looking for a camping stove oven solution on our camping trips as many campsite and parks do not permit open fires. We always felt this kind of spoils the camping atmosphere! but we understood the reasons for it. We are keen campers and tried everything from firepits and chimnea’s to prolong the chilly evenings.  The problem we had with chimnea’s is there lack of control and we would become a slave to them constantly loading wood and being choked by the pluming smoke. We loved the idea of wood burning to keep us warm late into the evening but we then didn’t want to have to take a gas bottle or charcoal to cook with. So we decided to take matters into our own hands and develop the very first high efficiency camping stove oven powered by wood.

Here are a few advantages of the Bushmaster Camping Stove

  • Very efficient and uses very little fuel
  • Burn wood or charcoal, spark free with no risk to surrounding tents etc.
  • East to pack away into the back of even the smallest vehicle lightweight and robust
  • Large cooking surface. Heat can be controlled for perfect cooking results
  • Stay clean glass. See the fire for that camp fire feeling without the smoke and risk to the camp.
  • Solid Steel construction.
  • Warming/ drying rails (extremely useful with British weather!)
  • legs to stop damage to grass or patios.
  • relatively low cost compared with firepits that rarely last a season
  • 12 Month warranty
  • Bushmaster amp stove logo

After many months research we think we came up with the answer. The little Jaz  camping stove oven  weighs approx 20KG which makes it portable as far as usual wood stoves go. We also had to design a stove that would run perfectly well with just 1 meter of flue pipe. Cooking on the stove is a delight, whether it be a full english breakfast or a curry it has the capability to become an essential part of your camp set-up. Apart from cooking the stove makes a great camping heater and easily keeps the area warm don to subzero temperatures.

[heading]Wood burning stoves for Yurts and Ecopods[/heading]

For many years wood burning stoves have been used in yurts as a primary heat source and for preparing foods. They are a simple and effective way to harness the power of the wood fuels and convert into a controllable heat source so that it can be used for boiling water or cooking meals off the grid. Yurts are now becoming fashionable due to the increase in glamping and the rise of the Ecopod and Vesta stoves have updated the simple yurt stove into an up to date high efficiency burner with everything you would expect from a modern woodburning cook stove.

The Bushmaster Camp Stove is the perfect addition to any camping  living space, its styling will grace the traditionalist and caters for lovers of modern furniture and appliances. With a deep firebox capable of burning a 450mm long log the firebox can be stoked to enable a kettle to be boiled with a few minutes of lighting.

The stainless steel lever controls combustion rate as well as the secondary air control that keeps the glass clear using Vesta’s air blade technology.

With a neat cook-plate on top of the stove a pan or kettle may be heated and boiled within a few minutes. The polished storage rails can also be used to hang pans and tools. the door beneath the firebox contains an ash-pan and can be emptied whilst the stove is running making the little Jaz a versatile 24hr cook-stove.

So if you’re looking for a wood burning camping stove  or a  ecopod heating and cooking solution or just a fun conservatory or garden office stove then check out the bushmaster.
