Vesta Stoves V2 on Amazing Spaces Hivehaus

Vesta Stoves featured on George Clarkes Amazing spaces Hivehaus 31st October 2013

We have been working on a fantastic local project www.hivehaus.co.uk. As part of the build featured on the channel 4 programme, we built a Vesta V2 to be incorporated in the build. The crew filmed Blacksmith John 🙂 building an ivory coloured stove from start to finish and used the footage as part of the series.

The Vesta V2 Stove was the perfect choice for amazing spaces Hivehaus due to its clean lines and curved shoulders that fitted perfectly with the styling on the kitchen in the Hivehaus.

This has been a great opportunity for some local Lancashire businesses to pull together and work on a great new project. Huge thanks go out to the Hivehaus team for choosing Vesta Stoves to be part of this exciting journey.

The Vesta V2 used for the project can be bought through our shop here and is available in a huge range of colours that can be viewed here.

About the Vesta V2 2kw woodburning stove

The V2 (2kw) Modern wood burning stove is a large capacity 2KW wood burning stove ideal for small rooms, conservatories,  narrow boats, conservatories and out-buildings up to 30 cubic meters. Ideal for rooms and areas where only a small amount of heat  is required without compromising the large glass window and perfect view of the fire. The V2 also has a good size burn chamber enabling a 300mm log to be easily loaded into the 2kw firebox.

The design itself is a classic fusion of simplicity and technological advances. The V2 introduces a tertiary jet of combustion air into the flue gasses allowing for enhanced combustion and increased efficiency. Preheated air is also injected into the combustion zone through Vesta’s rear primary air supply. The classic curved surfaces on the V2 add style and these arcs are carried on throughout the theme of the fire. The woodstove integrates Vesta air blade technology which preheats the combustion air and delivers a blade of air across the glass pane, ensuring that the view of the flames is free from soot and condensation.

The smallest stove in the Vesta range does not compromise on firebox size and has a full door allowing for easy loading of logs. The V2 (2kw) primarily designed for high efficiency woodburning can easily be fitted with an optional multifuel rack allowing the stove to burn smokeless fuels. Polished stainless steel accent air controls add style as well as providing accurate control of the airwash and burn rate. Secondary air supply is controlled by way of a slider at the base of the stove.

Available in a range of colours and with a range of accessories (including a log storage box) the V2 (2kw) is the perfect stove for any location. Dimensions and technical specifications available on the ‘specification’ tab.

Every stove from Vesta IronWorks contains Vesta Airblade technology to ensure that the glass is kept clear at all times creating the wonderful ambience of a real log burning fire.

How to fit a stove in a bell tent Ecopod’s / Glamping

Bell tent stoves, Eco Pods, Camping Pods and glamping in style with the help of Vesta Stoves

A revolution is well under-way in the camping industry. Many campsites are now introducing camping pods, bell tents, yurts or small wooden structures into their sites to encourage campers who want to spend time in a glamping.
Unfortunately for many there is one thing missing and that is an environmentally friendly, safe form of heating that truly captures the spirit of a forest glamping holiday.

Heating a bell tent

Wood fuel is the perfect way to heat these small wooden structures and by following simple safety principles can easily and quickly be fitted into a Eco Pod or other wooden structure. There are many questions to be answered surrounding the installation of a wood burning stove into a Pod or glamping hut and Vesta Stoves have addressed them all.

A small stove used for glamping pods, yurts and outdoor

Firstly we need to make an assessment on the heat requirement for a small hut. That’s simple and easy to calculate. By simply calculating the cubic meters of space inside the hut and then dividing by 15 you will have a result in KW’s for the amount of heat required to bring the pod up to a reasonable temperature of about 24 degrees. If you need help with this you can click here for our online calculator. It’s always better to have that extra capacity especially as the British weather can be so cold.

Once you know what size fire you need the planning stage can really start. Looking firstly purely at the stove and its relation to its surrounding within the Ecopod or shepherds hut to fire must have 500mm in all directions of clearance to combustible materials. Combustible materials are anything which could catch fire. Examples of combustible materials would be Wood, furnishing and rugs etc.

The flue system is relatively straight forward to fit onto an Ecopod. The most efficient way to install the stove is by using a combination of single wall vitreous enamel pipe and twin wall insulated flue. The terminal on the flue pipe should be situated level of slightly above the highest point on the glamping hut. A flue that is lower can be prone to downdraught or phenomenon were the flue works in reverse filing the area with smoke.

Bell temp glamping stove

Twin wall insulated flue should be used from 200mm inside of the make up at least the last 1 meter section of flue. Its important to check with the manufacturer’s instructions for the clearance required around the twin wall. It’s normally about 50mm or 2 inches. You can find our range of twin wall flue here The picture above shows a great adapter for the junction of the twin wall and single wall flue that makes an appealing junction rather than the use of large industrial adapters As the twin wall flue passes through the roof of the camping pod a rubber flashing can be used to prevent water ingress. These are made of a flexible high temperature rubber and can be formed to suit any shape or pitch of roof.

Vesta Stoves can retrofit stoves in camping pods and glamping huts and can offer 12 month – 5 year service contracts that are useful for site owners who wish to have heated pods with no worry or damage costs.

Stoves that don’t require an airbrick

We manufacture a range of highly efficient woodburning stoves that do not require an Airbrick due the output being less than 5KW. The Vesta V4 Stove has an efficiency of 81% and can be fitted to homes without the need for draughty air bricks so it is ideally suited to modern homes and conservatories. Document J of the building regulations states that any stove above 5 KW must have a permanently open air brick fitted but with the Vesta V4 Stove you can fit the maximum output stove without an airbrick.

The 4KW modern woodburning stove range is available in a huge range of contemporary colours. Please contact us on 01704 821095 for a colour chart.

All Vesta Stoves are painted with a special high temperature silicone resin paint that. can stand temperatures of up to 700 degrees c. Visit our gallery to see the full range of colours available.

What is best? Cast iron or steel woodburning stoves?

Choosing between a cast iron and steel fire.

We get asked this question all the time these days. Many who ask us have a pre-conception that cast iron stoves are far superior to steel logburners. However in our experience this is not the case.

Most of this argument comes from the heat storage capacity of cast iron versus steel and many people choosing between the two will purchase cast iron as they have come to believe that they hold the heat a lot longer than steel. This is the case and one I cannot argue. It is fact that cast iron has a higher heat storage capacity than steel. However, this needs to be explained further in order to answer the question.

There are now very few cast iron stoves made in the UK and many of them available on the market are Chinese imports. Even stoves that look cast iron that are made in the UK are in fact a steel body with cast iron doors added to the front.

Steel wood burning stove

Cast iron has an inherent problem when compared to steel Stoves. That is that cast iron stoves suffer from thermal shock. This means as the stove heats up rapidly tiny cracks can appear in the casting. One of the main comments we receive from customer is that there old stove is held together by fire cement as the castings have cracked. This simply doesn’t happen with steel wood or multifuel burning stoves. Steel is inherently elastic and therefore will stretch rather than split under rapid firing.

Another misconception is that steel stoves twist and bend under intense heat. I can totally agree with this if the stove is poorly designed and manufactured. However a good quality stove will not suffer from twisting. Always look for steel stoves with a 3 year warranty that way you can tell that the manufacturer has confidence in their process.

Modern and contemporary wood burning stoves are now designed with the latest low thermal mass brick sets that deflect the heat as well as make the fire burn hotter and more efficient. High efficiency is a function of good design and ensuring you choose a stove of 80% efficiency (vesta V4) or more is a good way to gauge the quality. These bricks are similar to what is used in night storage heaters. They have a higher heat storage capacity than cast iron and therefore offset the benefits of cast iron.

So to sum up, cast iron stoves in many cases are inferior to steel woodburning stoves. They are prone to cracking whereas steel stoves are elastic. Once a cast iron stove cracks it’s time to replace it as they become potentially dangerous. Always choose a good quality steel stove and definitely one that made in the UK, if not to support the UK’s manufacturers but to ensure your warranty can be honoured for many years to come.
